Health video contest
set for teens

Hawaii teenagers are invited to take part in the 2005 Teen Video Awards Contest by creating public service announcements that address the dangers of substance abuse and promote health and fitness.

The contest is sponsored by the Hawaii Medical Service Association, the Hawaii Department of Education, Sassy/G Magazine and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Entries are due no later than March 15. Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Best Anti-Drug, Best Anti-Underage Drinking, Best Anti-Smoking, Best Health/Fitness, and Best of Show.

Each school that produces a winning public service announcement will receive a voucher to buy video equipment or software for their school, with first place finishers receiving vouchers worth $1,000, second and third place each receiving $500. The "Best of Show" winner will receive a $2,000 voucher.

The top PSAs will also be aired on local television stations later in the year.

Public and private school students in grades six through 12 are eligible to participate. Students can get information packets at their schools.

Contest information is available at www.HMSA.com and www.sassymag.com.
