Mililani advances
to OIA Red final

Mililani scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Kailua 7-3 yesterday in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division softball semifinal at Kapolei.

The Trojans' five-run outburst came after each team had scored two runs in the ninth inning. The Surfriders (12-1) mustered a single run in the bottom of the 10th but their rally ended there.

Mililani (11-2) will play the winner of the Kapolei-Pearl City semifinal today at 7 p.m. in the OIA final at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The Hurricanes (9-4) and Chargers (11-1) began play yesterday at Pearl City, but rains came in the second inning with Kapolei up 5-0. The teams will resume play today at 10 a.m. at Kapolei.

Kapolei scored all five of its runs in the top of the second as a light drizzle fell. The drizzle turned into a downpour and the game was held up, forcing postponement of the semifinal for the second consecutive day.

Also halted by rain yesterday were the OIA Red consolation semifinals -- Moanalua and Castle in the first inning and Kahuku and Kaimuki in the fourth inning. Both games were scoreless. Those games will also be competed today at CORP. See the calendar in Scoreboard (Page B6) for today's complete schedule.

The winners of the consolation semifinal games qualify for next weekend's Division I state tournament.
