Rain forces change in Paradise Classic schedule

After the completion of the first game of the Hawaii Paradise Classic, yesterday's remaining games were postponed to today.

Washington defeated Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in five innings, 11-0, in the first game of Day 2 of the tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii. The new schedule eliminates the championship bracket of play, and the tournament winner will be based on pool play games.

Hawaii plays Oregon today at 4 p.m. at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, then concludes the tournament tomorrow with mid-day games against Washington and Jacksonville.

Discount registration ends tomorrow

Tomorrow is the final day to register for the 2005 Honolulu Marathon at the discount rate of $15,

The registration fee for Hawaii residents will jump to $60 on Monday. Niketown in Waikiki has been hosting walk-up registration and will continue to do so.

UH offers student tickets for brac ket busters

The Hawaii Athletic Department has announced ticket offers for UH students for the upcoming baseball season and the Feb. 19 Bracket Buster men's basketball game.

There will be a Manoa Maniacs cheering section at Les Murakami Stadium for the 2005 baseball season.

Season tickets in the lower level, section JJ are $185, but students buying as part of the Manoa Maniacs package will receive a $90 discount -- $95 for 38 home games. Buyers must have a valid Spring 2005 UH student ID and purchase their tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

Tickets to the Bracket Buster game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be free for UH students -- a valid student ID must be presented at Gate A one hour before the game.

Collegiate baseball tourney set

Hawaii Winter Baseball has organized the Collegiate Baseball in Paradise Tournament with four mainland teams competing Feb. 10-12 at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The teams, George Fox, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Texas-Dallas and McMurry, will play at 11 a.m. the first two days with a pair of double headers scheduled for Feb. 12.

Three former Punahou players, Kyle Seminara, Matt Oda and Robert Kurisu, are on the CMS roster.

Shimouchi shoots 62 at Hawaii Pearl Open

Japanese professional Satoshi Shimouchi shot a 9-under 62 in the first round of the 27th Hawaii Pearl Open yesterday at the Pearl Country Club.

Sitting in second is Takuya Ogawa, who trails Shimouchi by three strokes.

Due to a two-hour rain delay at the start of the tournament, nearly half of the 192-player field was unable to finish the first round. They will finish the round this morning before the start of the second round.

Nineteen-year-old Sakura Yokomine, one of three female golfers in the field, shot a 4-under 67. Japanese LPGA player Ai Ogawa turned in a 2-over 73, while 15-year-old Ayaka Kaneko, who attends Sacred Hearts Academy, had not yet completed play.
