The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell burns ahead
Barnwell Industries Inc., which split its stock 2-for-1 on Monday, continued soaring this week as it jumped 14.3 percent to lead nine other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.
The Honolulu-based company, which gets nearly two-thirds of its revenue from its natural gas and oil operations in Canada, closed yesterday at $44, just off its all-time high of $44.25 achieved the day before. Barnwell, up 18.7 percent so far in 2005, led the index last year with a 134 percent gain.
Central Pacific Financial Corp. also hit an all-time high this week as it rose 7.1 percent to $38.31.
