The team is a rapid-response statewide volunteer network under the Sierra Club, working together to protect Hawaii's water.

A general meeting will take place from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary at 6600 Kalanianaole Highway, third-floor conference room.

To register, call 537-9019 or e-mail bluewatercampaign@verizon.net and provide your full name, telephone number, e-mail address and street address.

Audition for late-night

Director Taurie Kinoshita is seeking nine male actors for Cruel Theatre's production of Frank McGuiness's "Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme," opening next month as part of Kumu Kahua Theatre's "Dark Night" series.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No preparation is necessary, although monologues are welcome. Auditions will be at University of Hawaii-Manoa Kennedy Theatre from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. tomorrow. Meet at the back entrance of the theater. Auditioners should arrive early and stay the whole time.

For more information, call 523-1004 and leave a message.

Make stories magical

Bishop Museum's Education Department will be hosting two storytelling programs for teachers. "Storytelling in the Classroom" will help educators become better storytellers. From listening to historic Polynesian tales to learning how to adapt material for storytelling, teachers will learn voice inflections, body language and use of props to bring stories to life, in a session running 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Paki II Conference Room at the Bishop Museum.

Teachers and students are also invited to a dramatic storytelling presentation, "A Whaler's Tale: The Adventure Continues," at Paliku Theater at Windward Community College.

Music and dance and storytellers from Hawaii, Alaska and Massachusetts will be featured in the production, with performances at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday that allow the audience to learn about cultural differences and similarities among American peoples.

Call 848-4168 for information and reservations. Transportation assistance for the Windward presentations is available.

These programs are sponsored by Education Through Cultural & Historical Organizations (ECHO). Partners in the storytelling presentation are Bishop Museum, Alaska Native Heritage Center, Inupiat Heritage Center, Peabody Essex Museum and New Bedford Whaling Museum.

TURNING POINT

Looking for love stories

In the history of amor, are there three more dreaded words than "Let's be friends"? Those words need not spell the end -- or so we hope.

For Valentine's Day we're looking for your true stories of friendships that blossomed into love. In 500 words or less, tell us your real-life Chandler and Monica kind of story. We don't care how many years you spent in friendship limbo. All we ask is that you keep the stories clean for this PG-rated newspaper. The story that melts our icy hearts wins a two-night stay at the W, dinner for two at Diamond Head Grill and flowers from Watanabe Floral. The loving couple's story will appear on Feb. 14.

The deadline is Feb. 10. Include your name, address and telephone number and send to Turning Point, Today Section, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 7 Waterfront Plaza, Suite 210, Honolulu 96813; fax 529-4750; e-mail features@starbulletin.com.

Contest open to Hawaii residents only. Star-Bulletin and MidWeek employees are ineligible. Entries will not be returned, and excerpts may be published without compensation. Judges' decisions are final.
