Program assists those
in need with tax forms
Free help in preparing state and federal income tax returns again will be provided through a volunteer program sponsored by AARP Tax-Aide, the Internal Revenue Service, the state Department of Taxation, the Armed Forces, community coalitions and educational institutions.
The program is aimed at elderly, low-income (under $36,000), limited-English-speaking and/or disabled taxpayers, as well as people who qualify for the Refundable Earned Income Credit.
As applicable, taxpayers requesting help should bring the following: Social Security cards or current records from the Social Security Administration; federal and state tax form packets; copies of last year's state and federal returns; all necessary forms to report wages, interest/dividends, Social Security, retirement or pension income; a list of medical, tax and interest payments; contributions; and miscellaneous expenses if itemizing deductions.
The following is a list of tax preparation sites on Oahu. Call 211 to find the site nearest you. On neighbor islands, call (877) 275-6569. Information is also available by calling AARP Tax-Aide at (888) 227-7669.
No appointment is needed unless indicated. Sites are closed on state holidays, such as Good Friday, March 25, and subject to change without prior notification. Electronic filing of returns is available at most sites.
