5 judges named
to District Court

Two appointments made to
Family Court also expire in a year

Five new per-diem judges have been appointed to one-year terms to the Honolulu District Court, effective last Wednesday.

They are:

» Alvin K. Nishimura, a sole practitioner in private practice since 2001 who served as trial attorney in the Office of the Public Defender for 11 years. He received his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
» Blake T. Okimoto, a sole practitioner in private practice since 1988 who focuses on Family Court matters, business and corporate law, real property and defense matters. He received his law degree from the University of Puget Sound Law School.
» Randal I. Shintani, a sole practitioner in private practice specializing in criminal and family law. He received his law degree from the Washburn University School of Law.

Appointed to the Honolulu District Family Court:

» Linda S. Martell has been a supervisor for the Family Court's custody evaluation unit since 2003. She was also a project coordinator for Family Court and a deputy attorney general for the Department of the Attorney General. She received her law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
» Shawna J. Sodersten has been the supervising attorney for the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline since 2001. She was an adjunct professor at the Family Law Clinic of the William S. Richardson School of Law.

The appointments expire Jan. 18, 2006.
