Writer wants to make
those house calls
We're two weeks into 2005, and I've finally figured out what my resolution is for this year -- to check out as many house parties as I can!
Mahalo plenty to Power 104.3's Hawaiian Ryan, who hosted a birthday celebration at his crib last weekend. It's been a while since I've been to a quality house party, and Saturday night's bash was a great way to get reacquainted.
Ryan's home is a shrine to creativity; between the lyrics of Jim Morrison, Björk and John Mayer scribbled all over the walls (and even the ceiling) are quotes from poets Kealoha and iNTREPiD. Artwork by the Angry Woebot sits in a corner, with an autographed picture of Olena Rubin hanging nearby.
There was a nice mix of people on hand as well -- fellow Power jock Krazy K was there, as was Kimo Tuyay, Tani Lynn Fujimoto and Killawattz Da Mongoose ...
OTHER NEWS from the weekend: Thursday nights are the time to visit Aku Bone if you're into Hawaiian music. I stopped by with a friend last week and was pleasantly surprised by Na Hoahanau ... Doesn't look like that Steel Pulse concert I told you about last week is going to happen. Instead, keep an eye out for more details on members of the Marley family performing alongside The Wailers on March 19 ... Fiji stopped by the new Maharaja Ultra Lounge after the "Winter Bash" on Saturday. Turns out Peter Maharaj was also born in Fiji, and his wife is one of the singer's lawyers. It's a small, small world ...
CONGRATS TO Darah Dung, who was crowned the 2005 Narcissus Queen on Saturday. She'll celebrate during a coronation ball on Jan. 29 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and will be joined by princesses Christine Doo, Janelle Leong, Caroline Lau and Cecilia Fong ...
A NEW cabaret-style show is on the way to the O Lounge.
After making her Broadway debut in "Bombay Dreams" last year, Mililani grad Wendy Calio is back home to cast four dancers and two singers who will perform Saturday nights at the nightspot starting Feb. 12.
Following auditions the last two days, a final open call is scheduled for 2 p.m. today. Dancers should be prepared to learn two dance numbers; singers will also learn a simple dance routine and should bring a karaoke track on CD to sing to. Call 687-3969 or (818) 749-7990 for more info ...
