Rams, Crusaders,
Trojans join poll
Three teams are in, three teams are out.
That's the fickle nature of the Star-Bulletin Boys Basketball Top 10, where media and coaches booted Konawaena, University and Kalaheo. In their places: Radford, Saint Louis and Mililani.
Iolani swept through a busy week, downing Kamehameha, Maryknoll and Mid-Pacific. The Raiders, now 5-0 in Interscholastic League of Honolulu play (19-2 overall), collected all 12 first-place votes. The three-time defending state champion Raiders have been at No. 1 since the start of preseason.
Punahou, likewise, has remained a lock at No. 2. The Buffanblu posted solid wins over Damien and Mid-Pacific to set up a battle of unbeatens. Punahou hosts Iolani tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The winner gets an edge in the ILH, where the regular-season titlist secures an automatic state-tournament berth.
Kahuku and Kamehameha moved up to share the No. 3 spot. Kahuku topped Kaiser and McKinley, while Kamehameha won voters over with a last-second loss at Iolani. The Warriors also routed then-eighth-ranked University before winning at Damien.
Baldwin, the Maui Interscholastic League leader, swept Kamehameha-Maui and Lanai. The Bears' only losses were to Iolani.
Campbell suffered its first loss in OIA West play, a 63-55 defeat at the hands of Radford. The Sabers slipped from No. 3 to No. 6. Radford, which had been out of the Top 10 for several weeks, returned at No. 7. The Rams attracted a lot of votes a month ago with two wins over Kamehameha.
Hilo moved up a notch to No. 8 after two wins.
Saint Louis, led by high-scoring Jack Miller, made its debut at No. 9, while Mililani, off to a 3-0 start in the OIA West, also entered the Top 10 for the first time at No. 10.
