Vulcans silence Sea Warriors

Alex Cabagnot scored 19 points -- 12 of them from the free-throw line -- and hit his team's only 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Hawaii Pacific 68-58 last night at Mid-Pacific Gym.

The Vulcans (16-2, 4-2 PacWest) return home to host conference leader Chaminade on Thursday, while the Sea Warriors (7-7, 1-3) hit the road to play Western New Mexico on Tuesday.

Vote for the 15-year All-WAC volleyball team

Fans are being asked to select an All-Western Athletic Conference women's volleyball team to celebrate the conference's 15th year of sponsoring women's sports.

Hawaii has six players among the 20 nominated, including past conference players of the year Angelica Ljungquist (1996), Heather Bown (1998-99), Lily Kahumoku (2000), Kim Willoughby (2001-03) and Kanoe Kamana'o (2004). Also nominated is former Rainbow Wahine setter Nikki Hubert, the WAC's single-season leader in total assists (1,782) and assists per game (14.61).

Speed and Quickness clinics set

Hawaii Speed and Quickness athletic skills training clinic, conducted by Hawaii coaches Mel deLaura and Rich Miano, has announced its initial schedule for the new year.

Clinics are for athletes ages 7-12 and 13-up, and are conducted at UH. The initial wave of sessions includes Jan. 22 and 23, Jan. 29 and 30 and Feb. 5 and 6.
