The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell retreats
Barnwell Industries Inc., which soared 134 percent last year to lead all local stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index, saw profit takers swoop in this week and send it tumbling to an index-worst 6 percent loss . Barnwell's stock closed yesterday at $75, more than $10 below its all-time closing high of $85.85 hit on Monday.
Hawaiian Holdings Inc., parent of Hawaiian Airlines, had the best performance with a 3.7 percent gain to $6.70. Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. and Alexander & Baldwin Inc. tied for second with gains of 2.6 percent each.
