Chaminade to donate tonight's proceeds

Chaminade University will donate all proceeds from tonight's home basketball game against Hawaii Pacific to tsunami relief.

HPU won the first game of the series Tuesday in triple overtime, 121-119. Tipoff is set for 7:30 at McCabe Gymnasium.

Speed and Quickness clinics set schedule

Hawaii Speed and Quickness athletic skills training clinic, conducted by Hawaii coaches Mel deLaura and Rich Miano, has announced its initial schedule for the new year.

Clinics are for athletes ages 7-12 and 13-up, and are conducted at UH -- at Cooke Field, indoor gyms and the UH weight room facility. Training techniques include the use of plyometric boxes, parachutes, weight sleds, cone and line drills, resistance straps and stride checkers.

The initial wave of sessions includes Jan. 22 and 23, Jan. 29 and 30 and Feb. 5 and 6. Additional clinics are set through May, with more likely to follow.

Water polo clinics to feature Olympians

Two fundamentals clinics for girls age 13 to 18 with Olympians Margie Dingeldein, Coralie Simmons and goalkeeper Jackie Frank will be held at Kalani High School Jan. 16 and 23.

There are two clinics each day at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The clinics are free but participants must be members of USA Water Polo. A coaches clinic is also being offered.
