HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Iolani holds onIn the latest proof that panelists are attached to the what-have-you-done-lately credo, there were some subtle changes in the Star-Bulletin Boys Basketball Top 10 released today. Iolani opened Interscholastic League of Honolulu play with a pair of wins and remained locked at No. 1. The Raiders, 16-2 overall, collected 12 of 13 first-place ballots. Among the changes, Kahuku took sole possession of the No. 4 spot after posting wins over Kailua and Farrington. The Red Raiders (9-1, 2-0 Oahu Interscholastic Association East) separated from Baldwin. The Bears, who were tied at No. 4 last week, routed King Kekaulike and Hana, but dropped to the fifth spot. Baldwin (10-2, 2-0 Maui Interscholastic League) has lost only to Iolani. Besides the Kahuku-Baldwin split, the only change on the poll was Kalaheo's entry at No. 10. The Mustangs knocked off Roosevelt 52-46 on Saturday to cap an impressive opening week in OIA play. The two-time defending league champion struggled through a 4-6 preseason. Roosevelt was without two starters when it went to Kalaheo on Friday. The Rough Riders, who re-entered the Top 10 at No. 10 last week, dropped out of the poll.
