Shanghai Circus returns this weekend

The New Shanghai Circus returns for performances this weekend at the Hawaii Theatre.

Born out of a tradition dating back 2,500 years, the popular circus tour combines artistry with athleticism. From dragon dancers, to contortionists, plate spinners and hoop divers (pictured), these rigorously trained performers always thrill and delight their all-ages audiences.

The circus kicks off at 7:30 p.m. today, with additional performances 2:30 and 7:30 tomorrow, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Learn to cultivate narcissus for the home

The Honolulu Academy of Arts is holding classes in the traditional Chinese art of narcissus crab-claw culture taught by isle expert Gilman Hu, otherwise known as "Mr. Narcissus."

Two clinics will be held Saturdays starting tomorrow and will run through Feb. 5. The morning clinic, held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. is offered to all levels. The afternoon clinic will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The cost per workshop is $35 for new students and $25 for returning students. Classes will be held in the Art Center Ceramic Studio. The workshops are offered in conjunction with the annual Narcissus Exhibition Feb. 12 and 13 in the courtyards of the Honolulu Adademy of Arts. This year's exhibition will also feature bonsaid demonstration and displays by the Hawaii Bonsai Assocation representing eight Bonsai clubs in Honolulu.
