Last call for ‘Rebel Rebel’
as Li departs

The Buddha Bar adds another event to its lineup this week, as CherryBomb Hawaii introduces "Synergy" on Sunday nights at the Lewers Street nightspot.

It looks like the Direct Descendants crew is involved with this one -- Ion Myke will host the party, with DJs Wrong One and Jahson the 45 Revolver serving as the weekly's resident waxmasters. Local female hip-hop artist JRoq will make a special guest appearance on opening night.

Doors open at 9 p.m. for the 21-and-over crowd, and cover is free before 11 p.m. Call 923-0202 for more info ...

AS ONE party gets its start, another comes to an end -- after almost a year and a half in existence, the monthly "Rebel Rebel" at Club Pauahi calls it quits tomorrow night.

Promoter Richard Li positioned the party as a knockoff of Los Angeles' indie rock scene, with a dash of British pop and electroclash for extra goodness. But the time has come for him to return to the big rock across the Pacific (he's moving to San Francisco this time), so "Rebel Rebel" is pau.

According to Li, cover bands Quaker Oates, Boys Don't Cry, Georgina Michaels and The Smithers will perform short sets throughout the night.

"When people are dancing, a band will suddenly appear on stage, play a song or two, and then leave," he said. DJ Nosebleed and the Erratics will also be on hand. Call 521-7252 ...

OTHER NEWS from the club front: Promoters G-Spot and Justin Yoshino celebrate the one-year anniversary of "Feng Shui" at Ciao Mein in the Hyatt Regency on Saturday night. The celebration is billed as a black and white theme party ... Pipeline Cafe also marks another anniversary this week. It's been five years since the nightspot opened, and it still holds the designation as Honolulu's top mainstream club. Saturday night is the big party, with DJs Sandman and Mikey D holding it down on the decks ... The downtown space that formerly housed Havana Cabana is finally occupied again. Starpoint Cafe has signs up announcing that it is open for business, with late-night hours on Friday and Saturday nights. I'm also told a weekly drum-n-bass party is in the works there ... Skybox is another bar that recently opened in town. It replaces Bikini's above Blue Tropix, but retains the sports bar vibe ...
