Vulcans on a roll

Osadonor Esene scored 12 points and Alex Graham added 10 to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Asbury College 78-46 in a nonconference basketball game last night at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Vulcans (12-1) shot 46 percent from the field and hit six of 12 3-pointers in taking a 40-24 halftime lead.

Travis Spann led the Eagles (8-7) with 12 points.

Seasiders lose again: Freshman Grayson Moyer's 25 points helped offset a game-high 33 points from All-American Jake Chrisman as Humboldt State handed BYU-Hawaii its second straight loss 83-81 yesterday at Arcata, Calif.

The Seasiders trailed 46-33 at halftime, but took the lead late in the game behind Chrisman, who scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half, but his last-second shot to tie the game was blocked.

HPU falls: Gene Barnes and Audrius Peciukas scored 15 points each but it wasn't enough as Hawaii Pacific fell to Northwest Nazarene, 62-61, at Mid-Pacific Institute gym.

The Sea Warriors slipped to 5-4 in snapping their two-game winning streak. HPU trailed 34-25 at halftime before closing to one with 10 seconds left.
