A BEAUTIFUL 'BOWL OF LIGHT": Kumu hula Sonny Ching talked with halau members Jennifer Oyama, left, Maile Francisco and Natasha Akau after his Christmas show, "Immersed in the Bowl of Light," opened at the Hawaii Theatre on Saturday. Ching and his Halau Na Mamo O Pu'uanahulu used hula and chant, and Hawaiian and haole music, in a beautiful celebration of island traditions and Christian faith. Oyama, Akau and Francisco were front-and-center for several beautiful hulas. Ching joined the halau for the finale.

THANKS, LOPAKA!: Halau Na Mamo O Pu'uanahulu member Lopaka Igarta-De Vera shared some of his leis with Maile Francisco as they were talking with friends and well-wishers outside the Hawaii Theatre after the show on Saturday. Igarta-De Vera worked with kumu hula Sonny Ching as co-cordinator of the expansive production as well as dancing in it, and was singled out for special praise by Ching during the final moments of the show.

LOVE THE ENCHALADAS!: Compadres Hawaii general manager John Langan, left, talked with Ola Fernandez and her husband, "Stomp" cast member Andrés Fernandez, as they were enjoying the show's opening night cast party at Compadres Ward Centre on Tuesday. It's been five years since the couple's last trip home, so Ola asked for a "take-out" order of her favorite item -- Compadres' beef enchiladas -- to take back to their hotel room. "Stomp" continues at the Hawaii Theatre through Jan 2.
