The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell surges
Barnwell Industries Inc. continued to make a late-year surge and jumped 10.6 percent this week to easily outpace nine other local companies in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.
The Honolulu-based company, which conducts oil and gas explorations in Canada and has real estate holdings on the Big Island, closed yesterday at an all-time high of $61.
It is now up 92.7 percent for the year and has pulled with striking distance of Hawaiian Airlines parent Hawaiian Holdings Inc., which is ahead 113 percent this year. Hawaiian fell 0.5 percent for the week.
