Viloria may fight
in main event
Brian Viloria often says that he is ready to fight anyone at any time, and fight fans might find out Thursday.
Viloria, a 24-year-old flyweight from Waipahu, has been offered a spot on Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions' HBO Latino Boxeo de Oro main event in Los Angeles Thursday.
Viloria lives and trains in Los Angeles, but since he has had his last two fights canceled at the last minute and hasn't fought since June, his first appearance on HBO is no sure thing.
"It's boxing," Viloria's manager, Gary Gittelsohn, said. "Getting fights for Brian is harder than I ever imagined, but I hope he looks good Thursday to make my job even harder."
Viloria will either fight tough guy Angel Priolo (30-1-0, 20 KOs) for the right to meet World Boxing Council champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam or will defend his North American Boxing Federation title against newcomer Francisco Arce (0-1), whose brother is the top light flyweight in the world. The vacancy on the card was created when Fernando Montiel, who is also handled by Gittelsohn, had to give up his spot because of a stomach ailment.
Viloria was ordered by the WBC to fight No. 1 contender Luis Maldonado in an elimination bout, but Gittelsohn says that Maldonado has been ducking his fighter.
