Streets will close
for race
Delays are expected from downtown
to Hawaii Kai tomorrow
Streets from downtown to Hawaii Kai will be closed or restricted tomorrow for the Honolulu Marathon, which is expected to attract 26,000 runners.
The race starts at 5 a.m., but traffic restrictions begin as early as 12:30 a.m. and will continue until 1 p.m. on some streets. Drivers who must use streets near the race course should expect delays.
The 26.2-mile run begins at 5 a.m. on Ala Moana Boulevard at the Queen Street extension. It follows a course through downtown Honolulu, Waikiki and East Honolulu to Hawaii Kai and then back to the Kapiolani Park finish line.
Among the closures:
» The H-1 freeway will be shut from the Waialae Avenue offramp to Aina Koa Avenue from 3:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
» The makai side of Kalanianaole Highway will be reserved for runners, and traffic will be contraflowed on the mauka side.
» All lanes of Kalanianaole Highway will be closed between Hawaii Kai Drive and Keahole Street from 3:30 a.m. until the area is clear.
