The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Cyanotech rises
Cyanotech Corp., the second-worst performing local stock this year, jumped 13.2 percent this week to top the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The Big Island company, which produces human and animal nutritional products from microalgae, closed the week at its highest level since reaching $1.75 on Aug. 2. Cyanotech is still down 18.1 percent for the year.
Barnwell Industries Inc., which on Monday posted a 74 percent increase in fiscal fourth-quarter earnings and announced a 2-for-1 stock split, hit an all-time high of $55.80 on Wednesday before closing yesterday at $55.15.
