Campbell leaps into poll;
Kamehameha sits at top

There was more drama at the bottom half than the top in the final Star-Bulletin Football Top 10 poll of the season.

Campbell, the Division II state champion, leaped into the poll at No. 7.

The Sabers defeated Iolani 28-7 in the championship game Friday.

Kamehameha, which conquered the Division I state championship with a 28-7 victory over Leilehua, collected all seven first-place votes.

The Warriors captured their first postseason championship since winning the 1974 Prep Bowl, also over Leilehua.

Leilehua, the underdog squad that knocked out then-No. 1 Kahuku in the semifinals, vaulted four spots to No. 2.

Oahu Interscholastic Association champion Kahuku slipped to No. 3.

Lahainaluna, which lost to Kamehameha in the semifinals, finished at No. 5.

Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I runner-up Saint Louis dropped to No. 5, followed by Mililani.

Baldwin stayed put at No. 8, while Iolani dropped two notches to No. 9.

Castle remained at No. 10, despite not playing in the state tournament.
