Paddlers took their canoes out of the water Saturday after a race from Hawaii Kai to Ala Moana Beach Park to benefit Leighton Look, who was paralyzed from the neck down by the bends Oct. 14 in a diving accident. The proceeds go to help defray his medical expenses. Kayakers also raced. The first-place finishers were Jimmy Austin and Karel Tresnak Jr. in their two-man canoe. The Waikiki Beach Boys Canoe Club finished first in the open six-man canoe competition.

The Hawaiian Humane Society held its annual Pictures with Santa Paws event yesterday in Moiliili. For $20, people and their pets could have their picture taken with Santa. Philomina and Johnny Rouse tried to get all four of their dogs posed for the photo.

L&L Drive Inn and the Honolulu Filipino Jaycees hosted a Christmas party yesterday for Goodwill's clients/participants. The party was held in the Goodwill facility in Mapunapuna. Malcom Skaggs, left, and Blaine Sadinha enjoyed the food and festivities.
