Nakamatsu’s party

Jany Cataldo tossed an "Academy Awards" birthday party in her Colony Surf apartment for Emporio Armani's Greg Nakamatsu last Saturday. About a dozen guests were told to show up as their favorite movie stars. All received engraved "gold" Oscars. The hostess impersonated Heather Locklear, Amanda Abe was Pamela Anderson, Steven Opstad was an outstanding Joel Grey, Michael Lyons was Robert Redford, the birthday boy was fashion designer Tom Ford and Kristin Zambucka was emcee. But the star of the night was Uli Cutter, who rolled in on the red carpet in a wheelchair as Liz Taylor in recovery -- with medication and a doggie in tow. During her lengthy three-page Oscar acceptance speech, she was interrupted frequently and urged to it speed up. After the party, everybody went downstairs to dine at Michel's where they shook up the crowd ...

Vic Hawthorne in a kilt shows off his knees

Retired Col. Vic Hawthorne wore a kilt to show off his "new knees" at his 80th birthday party Monday at Compadres. Vic has had both knees replaced and is now going strong on the links. Joyce Bliss organized his party. Vic and John Langan, Compadres' G.M., share the same birthday. Vic's party invitation read: "There are two turkeys to celebrate in November; the one we eat on Thanksgiving, and Victor J. Hawthorne on Nov. 22 on his 80th birthday." But Vic isn't a turkey. He's on Compadres' Wall of Fame for his contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society ...

Vicki Borges, former executive assistant to Mayor Jeremy Harris, rejoined Communications Pacific Monday. She will serve as executive assistant to Exec V.P. Christina Kemmer. Vicki is the wife of singer Jimmy Borges ...

Jim Nabors' "A Merry Christmas with Friends and Nabors," always a wonderful holiday gift for the family, is scheduled Friday through Dec. 5 at the Hawaii Theatre. The huge cast includes Jimmy Borges, Emma Veary, Karen Keawehawaii, the Huber Marionettes, Diamond Head Theatre's Shooting Stars, Hula Hui O Kupunahala O Nuuanu YMCA and the Honolulu Symphony ...
