Kalanianaole closures hit town-bound traffic

Motorists are advised to be aware of lane closures starting Monday along Kalanianaole Highway between Kapaa Quarry Road and the Castle Junction intersection.

The right town-bound lane of Kalanianaole Highway in the area will be closed on Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.

The lane will be closed Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The closures are needed to repave the right-turn lane cordoned off after a landslide last year.

Motorists are asked to use caution while driving through the area and to allow for extra travel time.

Alleged beating leads to arrest of 44-year-old

A 44-year-old Waianae man was arrested Wednesday for second-degree assault after allegedly beating a woman with a metal rebar.

Police said the victim, a 38-year-old woman, was employed by the suspect to do yard work. She told police the suspect lost his keys Wednesday and accused her of stealing them.

He then allegedly beat her several times with a three-foot-long piece of metal.

The victim fled to a nearby hospital where the incident was reported. The incident is still being investigated.

Equipment used for forgery crimes found

Honolulu police recovered equipment from a high-tech lab used for forgery crimes in Waikiki earlier this week.

Police seized computers, printers, and numerous documents including bank checking account statements and other personal financial information on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Police said the suspect in this case is already in custody at the Oahu Community Correctional Center for failing to appear for sentencing for two previous forgery convictions.

2 teen boys allegedly rob Waipahu store

Police arrested two 17-year-old Ewa Beach boys for allegedly robbing a Waipahu liquor store Wednesday night.

The suspects allegedly entered the liquor store about 9:20 p.m., grabbed a 24-pack of beer and attempted to leave. Police said the store's 61-year-old cashier tried to stop the teens, but was pushed into a store display.

Police responded to the scene and located a group of 10 men drinking nearby, some of whom challenged the officers to a fight.

Four men from that group were arrested for disorderly conduct. Two of the arrested suspects were later identified as the same ones who robbed the liquor store.

Police said the blood-alcohol level for one of the robbery suspects was above 0.2 percent, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 percent for drunken driving.
