Hawaii Beat

Michigan State-Hawaii game on ESPN2

The Michigan State at Hawaii football game on Dec. 4 will be televised by ESPN2, UH athletic director Herman Frazier announced yesterday.

Kickoff at Aloha Stadium, previously set for 6:05 p.m., is changed to 6:30 p.m.

It is the last regular-season game for the Warriors this fall. If UH beats Northwestern this Saturday and Michigan State, they qualify for a third-straight appearance in the Hawaii Bowl, on Dec. 24.

Seasiders rout Oakland City

Mike Stowell scored 24 points and dished out six assists to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball team to a 97-75 win over Oakland City Tuesday in Laie.

BYUH (3-1) led 37-33 at halftime before Stowell scored 11 straight points to give the Seasiders command of the game. Thomas Watkins added 19 points for BYUH, which next faces Hawaii Pacific on Dec. 1 at Blaisdell Arena.

UH tennis teams swept by Stanford

The University of Hawaii men's and women's tennis teams both suffered 7-0 defeats to Stanford on Tuesday at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island.

The Cardinal women's team, the defending national champion, dropped just one set in the day's nine matches.

Chad Faulk came the closest to claiming a win for the UH men's team, losing to Phil Kao in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5).

Nishimoto earns all-conference honor

Bethany Nishimoto, a Hanalani graduate now playing soccer for Dordt (Iowa) College, was been named an all-Great Plains Athletic Conference honorable-mention selection.

Nishimoto, a senior from Aiea, led Dordt College in points with nine goals and nine assists.
