Deadline extended to apply for city jobs

The deadline to apply for jobs with Mayor-elect Mufi Hannemann's administration has been extended to Monday.

"I would encourage all interested individuals to come forward and submit your names for consideration," Hannemann said.

Applicants should include a cover letter stating the position they are seeking and a resume that includes references.

Submit applications to Hannemann Transition Office, City Hall Annex, 550 S. King St., 2nd Floor, Honolulu 96813.

The deadline, which was originally tomorrow, was extended to allow time for people to submit applications following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Hannemann also announced the makeup of the five search committees that will screen applicants, interview finalists and pare down to three candidates for Hannemann to select. Each committee will be responsible for three to four city departments. The 60 people named to the committees come from business, labor and government.

Charter Commission members nominated

Mayor Jeremy Harris and the City Council have made their respective appointments to the 13-member Charter Commission, which will convene to discuss possible changes to the City Charter.

The mayor and the Council each pick six people. The mayor makes a seventh selection, which must be confirmed by the Council.

The mayor selected Steve Meder, Gordon Grau, Jan Sullivan, Jeff Mikulina, Darolyn Lendio and Malcolm Tom. These appointments do not need Council approval. Harris also named John Whalen; his nomination needs Council approval.

Council Chairman Donovan Dela Cruz named Jared Kawashima, Andy Chang, Donn Takaki, Amy Hayashi, James Myers and Jerry Coffee.

Djou seeks data on Harris' travels

Councilman Charles Djou, who has criticized Mayor Jeremy Harris for frequent trips off island, has asked the state Office of Information Practices to tell the mayor to release information on who has paid for the travel.

"Although the mayor has every right to travel, the public has a right to know who is financing Harris' globetrotting and if those entities paying for Harris' trips are trying to influence city business," Djou said in a statement.

Djou said later that he went to the OIP, which oversees state laws governing public information, "simply because (Harris) never responded" to requests for information.

The mayor said through a spokeswoman that he has made the information public to those who have asked, particularly the media.

Djou said he made written requests on Sept. 1 and Nov. 10 to the mayor's office but has not received a response. Djou said the information is public and, under state law, must be released within 10 days after being requested.

Djou said the OIP will determine whether the information he requested is something the mayor should release.
