The Honolulu Academy of Arts World Art Bazaar opens tomorrow, bringing the world of indigenous crafts and treasures to holiday shoppers.

The 23rd annual event will take place at the Academy Art Center at Linekona, 1111 Victoria St., running 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays, through Dec. 12.

Among the items offered will be a large collection of Japanese kimono and haori (jackets), and other ethnic clothing made from vintage Thai silk ikat sarongs and indigo tie-dyed cotton.

Also available will be ornaments and creches, plus a large collection of antique Chinese baskets, ceramics and cookie molds; colorful carved wooden animals from Mexico; a selection of sculpture and artifacts from Papua New Guinea; old African beads, Thai hill tribe silver necklaces, lacquer ware from Myanmar and hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces, such as bronze Hindu deities.

Admission is free. Proceeds from sales benefit academy programs. Call 532-8700.
