La Pietra sunset event
serves all that jazz
and a lot more

La Pietra's Sunset Jazz event on the lawn had much more than jazz to offer Sunday. Sure, there were plenty of good jazzy songs knocked out by Shari Lynn, Jimmy Borges, Gabe Baltazar and Fascinatin' Rhythm, but get a load of the rest: Martin Denny, 93 years old, at the piano playing three of his exotic numbers with Jimmy doing bird calls on "Quiet Village," a young women's harmonious barbershop quartet, super senior Art Todd singing and playing banjo, a bit of Broadway by Shari, and the groovy Savoy Sisters -- Rose Marie Barbee, Annie MacLachlan Renick and Shari -- singing a great medley of Glenn Miller favorites. July 12 is when the "little astronaut" should arrive, said John, who plans to take a space flight some day. "We are so excited about becoming parents. We have wanted this for a long time," he said ...
