No repair date set for Wahiawa water pump
Board of Water Supply officials are continuing to ask Wahiawa and Whitmore Village residents to conserve water as crew members assess a broken pump that supplies the area.
"We still have people working on the pump problem," said Wanda Yamane, informational specialist for the Board of Water Supply. "They've managed to alleviate pressure on the system."
The pump, located several hundred feet underground, broke at about 8 p.m. Saturday. Yamane could not say when repairs were expected to be completed.
Coast Guard welcomes home anti-drug ship
The Honolulu-based Coast Guard vessel Rush is scheduled to return today after a 67-day deployment to disrupt narcotic operations in the eastern Pacific.
Its tour seems to have paid off. During its deployment the Rush crews seized 4,835 pounds of cocaine with a street value pegged at millions of dollars.
The Rush also participated in drug-trafficking operations dubbed Operation New Frontier in the Caribbean.
On Oct. 31 the Rush received a report of a fishing vessel that was refueling a "go-fast" vessel suspected of drug trafficking, about 270 miles off of the Galapagos Islands.
The Rush launched its MH-68 helicopter to conduct an investigation. Coast Guard officials said the fishing vessel stopped after multiple warning shots, including one into the engine compartment.
Ninety-one bales of pure cocaine weighing an estimated 2.4 tons were discovered aboard the vessel, with an estimated street value of $43 million.
Earlier this year, the Rush was credited with the interdiction of the fishing vessel Luis Angel, where 3.85 tons of cocaine were seized.
Along with its recent seizure, the Rush interdicted nearly 12,500 pounds of cocaine this year, a record-setting one for the Coast Guard in drug seizures.
The Rush is one of two 378-foot High Endurance Cutters based in Honolulu. It has 188 officers and crew members.
