Fall from 9-story Moiliili building kills 3-year-old

A 3-year-old boy died last night after falling from the ninth floor of a Moiliili high-rise. Police said the fall appeared to be accidental.

Friends and neighbors identified the boy as Eddie Reiser III.

Police responded to 2648 Kuilei St. at about 7:30 p.m. after getting multiple 911 calls about the fall. The boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

His father, Edward Reiser, said his son apparently jumped off the ninth-floor balcony. He said he had locked the boy in the apartment to discipline him, while he stood outside the front door. After about two minutes, when he didn't hear the boy crying, he went to check on him.

He looked over the balcony and saw the boy eight floors down on the second level of the open-air parking garage.

Bonnie Matsumoto, Reiser's neighbor and friend, said, "This should not have happened. He's the most loving father."

Automobile thieves take victim for a ride

Police are looking for two men who allegedly kidnapped a man for hours early yesterday before stealing his car.

The incident started about 12:10 a.m. when a man, whose age was not given, stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Bethel and Beretania streets.

Police said a man in his 30s got into the car on the passenger side and threatened the victim with a handgun.

The victim was then forced to drive to Kukui Street, where a suspect in his 20s got into the car.

The suspect then moved the victim to the back seat and the three drove around for more than three hours. At about 4 a.m., the victim was dropped off near Roosevelt High School and the suspects fled in the man's car.

LEEWARD OAHU

Man, 77, assaulted while in care home

Police arrested a 46-year-old man yesterday for second-degree assault after he allegedly beat a 77-year-old man in a Waipahu care home.

Police did not release the identity of either man.

Police said that on Friday other residents of the residential care home watched as the younger man assaulted the older one "for no apparent reason."

The care home operator intervened and called police. The suspect was arrested at the scene. The victim was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

Fatality involved stolen motorcycle

A 33-year-old man who died in an accident Friday night is believed to have been speeding on a stolen motorcycle, according to police.

Just after 6 p.m., the motorcycle was headed toward Iroquois Beach on Fort Weaver Road, approaching Parish Drive. A car driven by a 19-year-old male was headed in the opposite direction on Fort Weaver and was making a left-hand turn onto Parish. The two collided and the motorcycle driver died at the scene.

Police said neither alcohol nor speed were factors involving the car. Police are investigating whether or not the motorcycle driver had alcohol in his system. The victim's name was not released.

Death threat leads to high school arrest

Police arrested a student at Campbell High School on two counts of robbery in connection with two incidents at the school.

On Nov. 12, two male juveniles were sitting in a classroom when one of them threatened to kill the other unless he gave him money, police said.

Police said that six days later the suspect approached the same victim in the same classroom, this time brandishing a dissecting scalpel. The suspect allegedly demand the victim get out of his chair. The victim refused.

The suspect then sat in the seat in front of the victim. He turned around and demanded the victim give him money or he would kill him, police said.

The victim was not hurt.

An 84-year-old man apparently drowned at Kaimana Beach in Waikiki yesterday morning, police said.

Officers responded to the incident at about 8:15 a.m., after beachgoers brought the man to shore. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said he might have had a heart attack while swimming. There were no signs of foul play.

Man charged after Big Island robbery

A 22-year-old Hilo man who allegedly robbed a North Carolina couple last week on the Big Island has been charged, and is being held in lieu of $15,500 bail.

Robert Tysen Agres was charged Friday with first-degree robbery in connection with the incident. He was also charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree theft for other alleged offenses.

Police said Agres robbed a mainland couple at the Puueo apartment complex. The suspect kicked in the apartment's door, brandished a pipe and demanded money, police said. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
