Homeless man killed in Ewa Beach park

Homicide investigators said they are looking for several suspects involved yesterday afternoon in a fatal shooting in Ewa Beach.

Detectives said the victim, described as a homeless man in his 40s, was in his parked car at Oneula Beach Park when he was shot in the face. His body was found at around 12:30 p.m., and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

While they investigated, officers closed off the entrance to the park, also known as Hau Bush. A shotgun believed to be used in the murder was later recovered in the park area.

Police are looking for several suspects who drove away in a maroon-colored Mazda van.

Police have not released a description of the suspects or a motive for the shooting, and as of late last night, officers still had the park cordoned off while detectives finished their investigation.

Salvation Army seeks warehouse for holiday

The Salvation Army needs a warehouse to store and sort the donations it expects to receive during its holiday giving drive for children, seniors and families in need.

"We have an urgent need, and we're looking for a company that would be generous enough to help by loaning the use of a warehouse for a short period of time," said Capt. Roy Wild, Salvation Army officer in the Leeward area.

Ideally, the warehouse should be at least 1,000 square feet, in the Leeward area and available from now through December.

Last year, the Salvation Army collected and distributed more than 6,000 toys to children from families living on the Leeward side.

For more information or to help, call Wild at 487-1636.
