"MR. NOLTE, I PRESUME?": Peter Noone, center, talked backstage with Tom Moffatt, right, and John Matthews of Oldies 107.9, before taking the stage at Moffatt's "British Invasion" concert in Blaisdell Arena on Sunday. Noone, known since the 1960s as Herman of Herman's Hermits, joked about being mistaken for actor Nick Nolte, and added a satircal note by promising to follow exactly the example by Gerry Marsden earlier in the show by leaving the stage, and then returning with feigned amazement before doing the obviously pre-planned "encore."

A CHINESE FANTASY: The invitation read "Black Tie or Mandarin Formal," so Joey Caldarone, right, chose the latter for Hawaii Opera Theatre's Turnadot Ball at the Sheraton Waikiki on Saturday. Mary Chesnut Hicks, left, her husband, Kalani Hicks, and Sherry Chock Wong helped out with the HOT fund-raiser.

DRESSING FOR "TURNADOT": Pi'ilani Smith, left, looked stunning in a white gown and a Tahitian pearl necklace with Gucci links as she and Peter Rockford Espiritu talked with Gwen Ching during the pre-dinner cocktail hour that opened the HOT fund-raiser. Espiritu's high-fashion ensemble was Prada and Issey Miyake.

AND THE BALL CONTINUED: HOT executive director Karen Tiller, fourth from left, enjoyed the beautifully staged Chinese-theme fund-raiser with Brian Morrow, left, Kristen Chan, Guy Merola and Mark Wong. Merola and Wong bought their bow ties in Venice during a trip to Italy but their dinner jackets have different pedigrees. Merola had his made in Hong Kong; Wong's is "off the rack."

ONE HAPPY G-MAN: Cast member David C. Farmer celebrated with costume designer Athena Espania at the opening night party for Manoa Valley Theatre's production of "Red Herring" on Wednesday. Among the three characters Farmer plays in the well-written comedy is an FBI agent who investigates a communist spy ring.
