The David Sedaris show
ran until after midnight

ABOUT 90 people -- more than most rock stars warrant -- waited in line to have their books signed by author David Sedaris following his Saturday night appearance at Hawaii Theatre. Sedaris gamely obliged, not only signing until midnight, but taking time to chat with and sit for photographs with fans. Sedaris headed to Maui the next day, where he planned to shun the typical tourist spots in favor of laundromats and movie theaters, where humanity hangs out. The only damper to the evening at Hawaii Theatre: An overzealous volunteer who tried to rush people out the door by announcing Marks Garage, where their cars were parked, was about to close, even though closing time was about an hour away ...

Signature Dole Cannery started the Regal Crown Club about a month ago, rewarding moviegoers for purchasing movie tickets and concession items. Sign up at any Signature Theatre and you can get free popcorn on Tuesdays with a paid admission plus credits toward earning drinks and movie tickets. There is no fee to sign-up and the card can be used at Regal theaters on the mainland too. ... This week's opening movies have something for everyone. There's "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" for the kids, Nicolas Cage in "National Treasure" for the guys, and for the girls, RenŽe Zellweger reprises her role as Bridget Jones in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." Although the movie might be considered a chick flick, last week's preview for the film had several guys laughing throughout. ...

DJ Paul Ogata was on the air yesterday ranting about people putting their Christmas lights up already, saying that the "official" Christmas season should begin the day after Thanksgiving. I love Christmas but agree that Thanksgiving should be given its proper respect, so I just want to give a shout out to the family on Nehoa Street whose outdoor display features two huge Pilgram-dressed turkeys -- the only house I've seen with Thanksgiving decorations. ...

Last week, I gave the wrong information about one of the guests at the private blessing of Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas. Charles "Charlie" Higa of Zippy's Restaurants was accompanied by his wife, Helen. Their daughter Joyce Lee also attended. ...
