Peck, others from
islands earn honors

HAWAII soccer players on the mainland continue to receive honors as the collegiate conference season ends and melds into tournament action.

Lindsey Peck, a sophomore from Kalaheo at Missouri Valley College, has been named to the All-Heart of America Conference women's first team.

A midfielder, she helped the NCAA Division II Vikings compile a 12-4-2 record by scoring 12 goals and contributing nine assists in 15 matches.

Kara Ishikawa, an All-Ivy League second-team pick, was one of two players to start all 17 matches for Cornell (4-10-3).

Ishikawa was the leader of the Big Red offense, consistently putting pressure on opposing goalkeepers. She finished with a team-leading four goals on 36 shots, also a team high. Two of her goals were game winners for the Big Red.

The junior midfielder is an Iolani graduate.

Junior Charlene Lui, a second-team, All-Mountain West Conference selection for the second consecutive season, played in all 22 matches for the 7-11-4 Brigham Young Cougars. The midfielder from Punahou took 15 shots, including 10 on goal, but did not score.

Jessica Levitt, a junior midfielder from Parker School on the Big Island, is an honorable mention selection on the All-Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference women's team.

Levitt started all 19 matches for the NCAA Division III Dominican (River Forest, Ill.) University Stars. She is the Stars' (6-12-1) second-leading scorer with four goals on 37 shots and led the team with six assists.

Senior notes

Jennifer Iha concluded her career at Sacramento State as the only fourth-year senior honored on senior day.

The striker from Mililani saw action in 65 matches. She was a defender her first two years with the Hornets, then moved up top as a junior. Iha put 21 of her 34 shots on goal, scored three times and had one assist in her career.

"Jen has been a constant sense of laughter and sarcasm on this team, happy to fulfill whatever role she is asked," Hornets coach Katie Poynter said. "Jen is a committed student as well. She will graduate in December 2005 with a 3.1 grade-point average with a degree in psychology."

Bucky Jencks, a defender, had one assist in 13 matches this season for the 10-6-0 Bowdoin Polar Bears. The Punahou graduate also is captain of the Bowdoin tennis team.

"Bucky is part of a group of seniors who have brought great success to our program. He brings a lot of senior leadership to our team," Bowdoin coach Brian Ainscough said.

Recovering

Jolie Nitta, a sophomore midfielder, played in just eight matches for Azusa Pacific. The Mililani graduate broke her left leg in the eighth match and required surgery. She had scored three goals when she was lost to the 15-1-1 Cougars, who won the NAIA Region II title and begin play in the NAIA Tournament Thursday.

"It sucks not being able to play in the playoffs, but these things happen," said Nitta, who got off crutches this week and hopes to start jogging soon.
