Gary Pak to read from his new novelAuthor Gary Pak will present his new novel "Children of a Fireland" during a free reading 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the University of Hawaii Center for Korean Studies, 1881 East-West Road.Pak, associate professor of English and director of creative writing at UH, will also be signing copies of his book from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the UH Bookstore. The story -- part mystery, part surreal ghost tale set in contemporary Hawaii -- begins with the appearance of disturbing messages on the wall of an abandoned movie theater. No one knows who's behind the mischief, but everyone is speculating as frantic attempts are made to cover the grafitti and repair the damage done to reputations of its victims. Call 956-8697.
