Risque retailer
looks around

Frederick's of Hollywood Stores Inc. is looking to expand its presence in Hawaii. The retailer, specializing in intimate apparel, opened its only Hawaii store at Pearlridge Center in November 1980.

"We love Hawaii," said Ed Zorehkey, Frederick's real estate consultant.

"The company has gone through some difficult times ... but we are doing absolutely fantastic. We have new products in the stores and plan to aggressively expand into Hawaii."

The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy nearly two years ago. It has 155 stores nationwide and is planning expansion in Arizona, California, Florida and Nevada as well as Hawaii. The new isle store is slated for fall of next year, Zorehkey said, though a location has not been selected.

Five diamonds

Four Hawaii hotels and one restaurant can simultaneously get swollen heads and breathe sighs of relief, as they've again been named AAA Five Diamond winners for 2005.

AAA evaluates more than 55,000 properties each year and 0.26 percent make the Five Diamond cut.

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has made the list for 14 years; the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Maui is listed for a ninth year; this is year No. 7 for the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, on the Big Island, and it's a third-time charm for the Kahala Mandarin Oriental on Oahu. Hawaii's only Five Diamond restaurant, La Mer at Halekulani, makes its 15th appearance this year.

"It's great for the state," said Jeff Goldsmith, general manager of AAA Hawaii LLC. "It really shows the quality of properties the state of Hawaii has to offer tourists."

Power mommies

This month's New Baby & Kids Expo at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall will feature some star power for a panel discussion on having it all -- except for sleep, the publicist joked.

KGMB-TV anchors Kim Gennaula and Stacy Loe, KHON-TV Interactive News Director Gina Mangieri and interior designer Shari Saiki, all working mothers, will share personal experiences and encourage others with dual full-time occupations. Pat Katepoo, flexible work hours expert and founder of workoptions.com will discuss alternatives to spending your 9 to 5 in a cubicle.

The Power Women, Power Mommies panel discussion is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The expo runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
