Trigg-Smith named All-Ivy League

Romy Trigg-Smith has been selected to the All-Ivy League women's soccer first team.

The junior defender played every minute of Princeton's first 16 matches, then took a 10-minute break in the season finale. The Punahou graduate scored one goal, a game-winner, and had two assists.

The Tigers are seeded seventh in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field and host Central Connecticut State on Friday.

Shinn earns conference honors: Bobby Shinn, a senior striker for Pacific University (Ore.), has been named to the Northwest Conference men's soccer first team.

The Pearl City graduate led the Boxers (7-11-0) in scoring with six goals, five assists and 17 points. He put 18 of his 34 shots on goal and had one game-winner.

"Bobby is very deserving and I am happy that our opposing coaches recognized his efforts," Pacific coach Jim Brazeau said. "He has had a great career. He is a great kid, a hard worker and we will miss him next year."

Lajola loses in first round

University of Hawaii sophomore Derrick Lajola dropped his opening-round match in the main draw of the USTA Waikoloa Futures tennis tournament yesterday to Brendan Evans, 6-3, 6-0 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

UH junior Bryon Weinberg won three qualifying matches to also advance to the main draw of the tournament. He will face Nathan Price in a first-round match today.

Huang earns honor

Hawaii junior QiongJie Huang was named the Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week in swimming and diving last week.

Huang claimed individual diving titles in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events and took third in the platform at the USC Trojan Diving Invitational last weekend.

Vulcans pitchers named scholar athletes

Hawaii-Hilo softball pitchers Tara Martinez and Sarah Steele were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athletes for the 2003-2004 academic year yesterday.

Both earned academic Pacific West Conference honors last year while Steele was also named All-PacWest second team.

Millslage wins neighbor island tournament

Barbara Millslage won the Hawaii State Women's Golf Association Neighbor Island Tournament over the week by shooting an overall low gross score of 157 over two rounds.

Beverly Doi shot the lowest overall net score with a 137.

Warrior exhibition tickets on sale

Tickets for the Hawaii men's volleyball exhibition match against University of the Pacific on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff are on sale today.

Tickets range from $3 to $5 and are available at the SSC Box Office or via phone at 944-2697.

Seasiders stay in hunt for .500 record

The Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team kept its hopes of finishing with a .500 record alive last night, beating Hawaii's Pacific 26-30, 10-30, 30-28, 30-26, 15-12 at the Blaisdell Arena.

The Seasiders (11-11, 2-8 PacWest) have one match to play this season, while the Sea Warriors (17-3, 8-1) are looking forward to regional compatition.

BYUH hasn't suffered a losing season since 1988.
