Early Hawaiian Air
hostesses reunite
with warmth, aloha

Hawaiian Airlines DC-3 aircraft hostesses from the 1940s and '50s have their feet on the ground nowadays but they soared high Saturday night at their reunion dinner party at the Ala Moana Hotel. The women sang and danced hula as "olden days" warmth and aloha flowed freely. Sultry guest singer Napua Davoy was the star, showing her vocal versatility as she played piano. Imai & Friends was the house band. Brickwood Galuteria sang with them. Exceptional hula dancers Renette Miller and Queenie Dowsett drew heavy applause. Also entertaining were: Owana Salazar, Clint Chee, Verna Mae Perkins, Junu Cassidy, Greta Hegerfeldt and emcee Hale Kaohu Rowland, a key party organizer. Nora Auna Kaaua, 88, one of the first four hostesses hired, was recognized. B.J. Feldman gave the prayer ...

Waimanalo's Herbert Kihoi is taking a job in Iraq to oversee construction for a firm there. Charlie Beeck, president of Tropical Roofing and Raingutters, tossed an aloha dinner party for Herbert recently at Morton's. Herbert's wife, Sally, their family members and close friends were among the 20 guests. Herb departs Nov. 27 ... Sen. John McCain, Jerry Coffee and Susan Page, Jerry's wife, dined at Aaron's Friday. McCain and Coffee were POWs in Vietnam together ...

Guests jam the Red Party at Ala Moana Center

Guests packed the Red Party at Ala Moana Center Sunday to take advantage of the free food and drink offered by stores and restaurants. Escada manager Mariese Montano-Smith had statuesque Tanya DeJesus and Carolyn Bosanko model Escada's fashions. Prada Merchandising/Retail Manager Cori Mackie welcomed guests to an early private party in the store. Both Mariese and Cori looked glamorous in creations by their respective designers. John Geppert saw that all went well at Tiffany's. Sales Manager Ron Barboza pointed out that John was recently promoted to Tiffany's vice president for the Oahu market. Chef Mavro was making his tasty delights for the Hermes crowd. Gucci was another crowded classy spot ...

Despite Saturday's rain, Mayor-elect Mufi Hannemann was at La Pietra for Parent's And Children Together's benefit. Mufi described himself as a "Kalihi boy," familiar with PACT's operations at Kuhio Park Terrace ... Cheers to Peace Wong, born on Nov. 11, formerly Armistice Day, thus the name Peace ...
