Benefit concert set for today

The Honolulu Community Concert Band will hold a benefit concert today at the McKinley High School auditorium.

Proceeds go to the "Home for the Holidays" fund, which helps Hawaii National Guardsmen training in Texas pay for plane tickets home this winter. The citizen soldiers will deploy to Iraq next year. Admission to the 4 p.m. concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. For information, call the band at 236-7057.

HPD identify victim in stabbing in Wahiawa

Honolulu police have identified the victim of a Thursday night fatal stabbing in Wahiawa as 32-year-old Jonathan Nunes.

Kerry Sanders, 39, is wanted in connection with the case and police have asked for the public's help in finding him.

Police said Nunes died about 7 p.m. Thursday after being stabbed with a 10-inch kitchen knife during an argument with Sanders on the sidewalk fronting 560 California Ave.

Sanders, also known as "Al Capone," is the boyfriend of the victim's mother-in-law. The motive in the stabbing is under investigation.

Sanders is described as 5 foot 5 inches, about 140 pounds, with a medium build, black hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, a mustache and goatee. He is known to frequent Kalihi and Wahiawa.

Fatal house fire started by gas stove

The house fire that killed a 19-year-old Nanakuli man and his small dog late Thursday was started by an unattended gas stove, fire officials said yesterday.

The victim, Frank Krzyska, Jr., died after his home at 87-1428 Akowai Road was engulfed in flames about 11:49 p.m. Thursday.

16-year-old arrested in alleged knife threat

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday night in Kalihi after allegedly threatening a 35-year-old man with a knife, police said.

The incident happened at a Kalihi Street apartment building, while the victim was standing near the entrance, police said.

Police said the boy threatened the man with a knife, and the victim fled. The suspect was later arrested for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, and released pending an investigation.

Pahala house burns down, no one injured

A 1,200-square-foot house in Pahala burned to the ground Friday, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported.

Two fire engines, a tanker and 10 firefighters responded to the blaze at Mahimahi Drive and King Kamehameha Boulevard at 12:09 p.m. and extinguished it by 1:42 p.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which the Fire Department estimated as a $39,600 loss. The house, owned by Eddie Asuncion, had no electric or water service.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
