Dining around the islands
Flavors of ItalyThe name kind of sounds the same and the food is still Italian, but it's a completely new restaurant opening Friday at the former location of Sbarro restaurant at the First Hawaiian Center.Spada Bar & Restaurant is named for the Italian spada -- sword or swordfish. It will feature Italian cuisine with Near Eastern accents. The menu has been created by San Francisco chef Faz Poursohi. Spada is owned by Sports Bar, Inc. which also operates the Cove Bar at the Ala Moana Center. Assisting Faz in the start-up phase is consulting chef Troy Terorotua, the former corporate chef for Sam Choy's who is now with Big G's Catering & Consulting. The three-level restaurant seats 120, including 40 on an outside patio next to a waterfall. Hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays; 5 to 9 p.m. Saturdays. Parking will be free after 5 p.m. in the building.
Talking turkey, wine3660 on the Rise is hosting a Wine & Turkey event, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, as a benefit for the Rotary Club of Honolulu.Wines selected by Lyle Fujioka of Fujioka's Wine Merchants will be served with turkey appetizers by chef Russell Siu. Cost is $50, to benefit the Rotary's foster family programs. Call 847-0141.
The taste of pumpkinKrispy Kreme: Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnuts are available at Krispy Kreme's location in Kahului, Maui, through Thanksgiving Day. The doughnut is a seasonal specialty of the chain. Call 808-893-9883.Dairy Queen: The Pumpkin Pie Blizzard combines Pumpkin pie mix and pieces of pie crust with soft serve ice cream, topped with whipped cream and nutmeg. It will be available at Dairy Queen outlets throughout November.
