Winning surpasses record
for QB Chang

Hawaii quarterback Tim Chang has put thoughts about breaking the NCAA career passing record out of his mind as the Warriors try to bounce back from a horrific 69-3 defeat at Boise State last week.

"I'm not really thinking about it. My concern is winning games. Until we win games and everyone else here is happy, it would be very selfish of me to think about the record," Chang said after Wednesday's practice. "I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to play my game and help the team win."

The Warriors play Louisiana Tech tomorrow at Aloha Stadium. UH is 3-4 and 3-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. LaTech is 4-4 and 3-1. Hawaii must win four of its remaining five games to qualify for a third consecutive Hawaii Bowl. The Bulldogs are also in the hunt for a bowl bid, needing to win three of their last four.

Chang needs 14 yards to pass Ty Detmer's career mark of 15,031. If he does so, the game will be halted for a brief celebration.

Kauffman, Inferrera ready: UH starting right guard Uriah Moenoa has not practiced all week with a strained hamstring.

Coach June Jones said it is "iffy" that Moenoa will continue his 47-game playing streak.

If Moenoa can't play, the Warriors can either replace him with Phil Kauffman, or move Brandon Eaton from right tackle to right guard and start Jeremy Inferrera at right tackle.

Cougars on future schedule?: The Hawaii and Washington State athletic departments are talking about a football game, probably in 2008 or 2009, probably at Aloha Stadium.

It's far from a done deal, but "We are trying to lock in on dates," UH athletic director Herman Frazier said. "We might do a home-and-home with them, I'm not sure yet."

Frazier also said he is still trying to secure home games with UNLV and UCLA, as well as another road game with the Rebels. He has given himself a deadline of the end of the month to finalize the nonconference schedule through 2008.

He also expects to book Wisconsin for another game in addition to the Badgers' visit to Aloha Stadium next Nov. 26.

Tickets moving: A total of 2,196 single-game tickets had been sold as of Monday for the Dec. 4 home game against Michigan State, Frazier said.

Other remaining home games and single-game tickets sold: tomorrow, LaTech (1,505); Nov. 20, Idaho (775), Nov. 27, Northwestern (1,397).
