Hilary Duff performed at the Blaisdell Arena Friday night.

Hilary Duff’s
performance was
quite a scream

To report on Friday's Hilary Duff concert, it seemed appropriate to turn to an expert. Taylor Freeman, age 12, a sixth-grader at Le Jardin Academy, has been a fan since she saw Duff in the first episode of "Lizzie McGuire" in 2001.

The Hilary Duff concert rocked! All of her fans had a blast, and they lost their voices from screaming her name so loud. I was screaming, too. A lot. I think I'm going to lose my voice by tomorrow, too.

The concert opened with this deejay guy named Shawn Ho. He kept asking if we were ready for Hilary Duff. As if he had to ask!

Then there was a video showing some musicians, then Hilary on wanted posters, then Hilary came out with her opening song, "Girl Can Rock." Believe it, she can. I thought I was going to like the show, but the show was actually better then I thought it would be.

Hilary sounds much more rock 'n' roll in concert then on CD or in her new movie. Her voice is strong, too. I thought her voice was going to be shaky, but it really wasn't.

Another thing I liked was that Hilary was dressed as a normal girl would dress. She wasn't barely dressed in super-low things. She looked very laid back in black T-shirt and black capri pants with pink sequined seams in the back, and checkered Vans shoes that were black and pink. She also wore a lot of clunky bracelets on her right arm. That's the new "in thing."

My favorite song in the show was "Fly," but I think she also should have done "Someone's Watching Over Me," which is another of my favorite songs from the new album and also from her new movie.

I think she should have had more songs in the show from her new album, such as "Hide Away," because she did almost all the songs from last year's album and only four or five from the new one. But one of the older songs she did, "Come Clean," is also one of my favorites.

While she was singing, a screen behind her showed clips from her music videos or gave a close-up view of what she and the musicians were doing. That added a little more pizazz to the show.

Hilary was on for about 65 minutes. Most of the time they just turned off the lights between songs. She left the stage once when the drummer was playing, but came back in the same clothes. I don't know why she left. She sat on a stool to sing a couple of songs and played with a microphone stand on others.

People on the sides screamed louder when she came to their side of the stage.

After doing "Fly," Hilary came back for an encore. It was "My Generation," by the Who. It was kind of retro but I liked it.

The concert was totally packed from the beginning. When we got there the line was long for about a half-hour because they weren't letting people in. I don't know why. But when they opened the doors, the line started to move forward, and we got there right on time. By the time Hilary came on, everybody was in.

Hilary sang better then everybody told me she would. I thought she was wearing more makeup than she needed -- and she needed to get a tan -- but other then that, she was the best.
