Cheney’s visit will
affect traffic in Waikiki

Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to Hawaii means motorists need to be aware of road closures tonight.

The Honolulu Police Department is recommending that motorists traveling into Waikiki take Kapahulu Avenue and avoid the Hawaii Convention Center.

The following roads will be affected:

» Atkinson Drive between Kahakai Drive and Kapiolani Boulevard will be closed at 7 p.m. in both directions.

» Kalakaua Avenue between Kapiolani and Ala Wai Boulevard will be closed at about 9 p.m. in both directions.

» Kapiolani Boulevard between Kaheka Street and Kalakaua Avenue will be closed at about 9 p.m. in both directions.

» Kahakai Drive will be restricted to local traffic from 7 p.m.

» Ala Wai Promenade behind the convention center and the sidewalk fronting the convention center will be closed to pedestrian traffic.

All streets should be opened up by 1 a.m.
