West Coast once again is 2 hours ahead of usIf you're calling the mainland, be aware that daylight-saving time ended this morning at 2 a.m.In most U.S. cities, people set their clocks back an hour overnight, which means there's now an hour less time difference between Hawaii and locations that are now on standard time. Daylight-saving time returns the first Sunday in April. Besides Hawaii, the change does not affect Arizona or the portions of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, which do not observe daylight time.
Kapiolani-Keeaumoku areas lose electricityAbout 420 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in the Kapiolani and Keeaumoku areas experienced a brief power outage yesterday, HECO spokesman Jose Dizon said.A cable problem caused the seven-minute outage shortly after 10 a.m., Dizon said. Honolulu Police briefly directed traffic at intersections affected by the outage, a police dispatcher said.
By Star-Bulletin staff WINDWARD OAHUSpeed, alcohol were factors in fatal crashA 22-year-old Hauula man was critically injured in Kaneohe Friday night when the car he was driving crossed the center line and collided into a 1990 Toyota four-door sedan, injuring both its occupants.Police said the Hauula man was driving a 1988 Toyota two-door car on Kamehameha Highway near Wailehua Road when he crossed into the southbound lanes of the highway. The Hauula man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the other car, a 20-year-old Kaneohe woman, was also taken to Queen's with unknown injuries. Her passenger, a 20-year-old Kaneohe man, was taken to Castle Medical Center in an unknown condition. Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the collision. The Hauula driver was not wearing a seat belt, but the occupants of the other vehicle were.
