Senior bus riders have new ways to renewTheBus has several ways for senior citizens to renew their annual bus passes, city officials announced yesterday.For seniors who have photo bus passes:
» An application form for a new sticker will be sent in the mail during the month before your birthday. Fill out the application and mail it with a check or money order for $30 for a new sticker.
Those who are newly qualified for a photo bus pass may apply at TheBus Pass Office in Kalihi at 811 Middle St.» An application can be taken to any satellite city hall to receive a new sticker. If you have not received an application in the mail by the first day of the birthday month, you can obtain and fill out an application at any satellite city hall to purchase your sticker. The current sticker will be valid until the last day of your birthday month. For more information about the renewal process, call the hot line at 591-7600 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Special pig-hunting open in Manoa ValleyA special pig-hunting season will take place in the Makiki-Tantalus area and Manoa Valley during weekdays from Monday to Jan. 31, the Department of Land and Natural Resources has announced.Because of the recent damage caused by feral pigs to the Honolulu Mauka trail system and surrounding Honolulu Forest Reserve, the area is being opened to hunting by permit on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during this period, from sunrise to sunset. Signs will be posted at all major trail heads in the area to alert the public. Hiking will still be allowed on area trails, but hikers are advised to leave their pet dogs at home during control hours and not to interfere with hunting activities. For more information, call the DLNR at 453-6110. Additional three-month hunting periods will be allowed during the coming year, with the next hunting period set for May 2 to July 29.

Police and other officials, including a Hawaii County Fire Department helicopter, were unable to locate him. Kaohimaunu is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone seeing him is asked to call police at 326-4646, ext. 267, or CrimeStoppers at 329-8181.
LEEWARD OAHUPhone threat leads to school lockdownA threatening phone call from an unknown man forced the lockdown of a Waianae-area school yesterday.Police said that at about 8 a.m. a 48-year-old woman received a phone call from a man who threatened to kill her and her son. The victim in turn called the school her son attends, and as a precaution, school officials placed the campus on lockdown. The suspect caller is unknown at this time, and police are investigating the incident as a first-degree terroristic threatening case.
Teen graffiti artist is caught in the actHonolulu police chased and arrested a 17-year-old graffiti artist near the Kinau Street offramp early yesterday morning.A patrol car spotted the suspect spray-painting a concrete wall with a 16-by-6-foot "graphic letter design" at 3:25 a.m., according to police reports. However, the suspect took off running and was chased on foot by police from the eastbound lanes of the H-1 freeway to Punchbowl Street, then finally to the corner of Magellan Avenue and Pele Street, where he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage.
Man, 22, is arrested in alleged sex assaultsPolice arrested a 22-year-old Ewa man Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting two 14-year-old girls in Kapolei.Police said the alleged assaults occurred between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17. Police arrested the suspect at his Tenney Village home at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday under suspicion of one count of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of third-degree sexual assault and one count of kidnapping.
