‘Valley’ back at Manoa

Twenty-two years after its world premiere at the University of Hawaii-Manoa's Kennedy Theatre, the return production of Edward Sakamoto's "Manoa Valley" reunites the playwright with original director Glenn Cannon, as well as original cast members Stan Egi, Darryl Tsutsui and Kati Kuroda.

The play provides a nostalgic glimpse at local life just before statehood. Expressed in our rich pidgin language, "Manoa Valley" is a warm and gentle look over the back fence into the lives of a local Japanese family.

There will be free pre-show discussions at 7 p.m. before the two Saturday performances -- tomorrow will include those named above, and on Nov. 6, a panel of local playwrights.

» Place: Kennedy Theatre, University of Hawaii-Manoa
» Time: 8 p.m. today, tomorrow, and Nov. 4 to 6; and 2 p.m. Nov. 7
» Tickets: $15 regular; $12 seniors, military and UH faculty/staff; $10 non-UHM students; and $3 UHM students with valid Fall 2004 UHM ID
» Call: 956-7655
