Crews worked yesterday to clean up mud left behind from flooding overnight at Kahuku High and Intermediate School. While water receded in most areas, there were still large ponds on campus, including one at the school's stadium and track.

Exercise equipment at the school's fitness center and equipment in other classrooms first had to be removed and set outside before cleaning could begin. Water was as high as 4 feet in places but drained quickly, said Principal Lisa DeLong. The athletics complex was hardest hit, with water 2 feet high in the locker rooms, classrooms, fitness center and offices. The school placed sandbags and other material to wick away the water, but a thin layer of mud covered everything. Water pooled just outside the gymnasium but did not enter the building, sparing its wooden floors.
