Author's new chapterAuthor Pam Chun's second book set in Hawaii -- "When Strange Gods Call" -- hits bookstores in the next few days.Chun's first book, "The Money Dragon," published in 2002, was set in Honolulu's Chinatown. It was a multigenerational tale of one family's dynasty, in business and at home. "Gods," published by Dimensions, is another family-centered epic, this time set in Hawaii in the 1970s. The central characters are Miki Ai'Lee, great-granddaughter of a Chinese advisor to Hawaii's monarchy, and Alex Demming, son of her family's arch rivals. Their relationship must weather their careers, parental expectations and four generations of turmoil between their families.
Chun will appear at the following book-signings: Starlight tickets"Carnevale di Venezia is the theme for ARTafterDARK's annual black tie fudraiser, Jan. 8 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The Starlight Ball will offer continuous music by Hard 2 Oppose and Ned Flanders Band, dinner and a silent auction.The masquerade affair encourages attendees to come "en masque." Tickets cost $75. Proceeds benefit children's art classes and programs that are held throughout the year at the Academy Art Center including the new "Art to Go" program for youth-at-risk. Celebrity Tuxedos is offering tuxedos at a reduced rate. Ten dollars will be donated to the Academy for each rental.
