Universal
Jamie Fox plays Ray Charles in "Ray."

Movies opening this Friday:

"Ray": There's already been Oscar talk surrounding Jamie Foxx's portrayal of the legendary R&B musician Ray Charles in this biopic directed by Taylor Hackford. It's a spot-on performance of the blind man who found his calling at a young age to be a singer and pianist. Charles earned his reputation touring on the Southern "chitlin circuit," then gained worldwide fame incorporating gospel, country, jazz and pop influences into his inimitable style -- all the while struggling with, and finally overcoming, drug addiction. (PG-13)

"Saw": A Halloween thriller about a demented killer who plays a twisted game with two strangers -- a young man and a doctor. He keeps them shackled in a room with a dead man with a gun in his hand. The killer has instructed that one of the strangers must kill the other. If he fails to do so, then both men die, as well as the doctor's family. The killer has provided them with only a few clues and two handsaws -- too weak to break their steel shackles but strong enough to cut through flesh and bone. (R)
